What Does The Office of Pharmacy Affairs Do?

The Office of Pharmacy Affairs is a division of the Health Resources & Services Administration, which a department of the federal government. Also called the OPA, it is responsible for the administration of other programs, specifically with the 340B program that provides people with drugs at affordable prices. It handles all concerns relating to pharmacy affairs, including those that affect only smaller stores and issues that occur when two larger companies merge. It also handles different things to better protect those living in the United States.

Procedure Design

Procedure design is just one thing that the OPA does. When it launches a new drug program or discovers a new prescription drug making its way to the market, the office will look at how to design procedures relating to that drug and how to keep the price low enough for those who use it. Those facilities can then offer the medications to patients who could not otherwise purchase the drugs. Facilities can also purchase medications to give to patients who need immediate help during an emergency.

These controls can include limiting who has access to products coming from manufacturing facilities and reducing the number of people who can read the studies done on different medications.
